CLUB Report - November 18 edition

Berks Branch TOMCC Nacelle Report – Nov 2018
"Here we are and here we go!!! We're hitting the road!!! Branch members turned out in force to support the South Hants Branch at their Gathering. Ten Berkshire members met up and rode down as a group, with most wearing matching “gold on black” Berks Branch tee-shirts. It was a sunny day, we had a fun ride on the way and there was a great display of bikes. It was good to meet up with members of another branch. David, one of the Berks members, won the Best Triple with his immaculate bronze painted Hurricanesque T150 special. The same bike also won Best Triple at the Berkshire show this year as well so it is now a double winner. Congratulations!!
Lots of Branch members have been rescued by Derek (“wiv a van”) over the years and it happened again this week. Nick was riding to our club night on his1960 T110 when he broke down. Another member, Bob, spotted him stranded, rode on to the club and came back with Derek. They soon had the bike loaded on the van and back to his house. Thanks to Bob and Derek for their help.
A warm welcome to new member Barry Jones, the proud owner of a classic Bonnie and a 2006 Speed Triple, who came along on a Thursday night this month. Great to see you Barry!!!
Our annual quiz night with prizes is on Thursday 8th November 8pm at the BCSA. Please come along

Berks Branch TOMCC Nacelle Report – Dec 2018
"Here, there and everywhere!!! Despite there being few Branch events this month, there has been plenty to do, with individual members going to the Concorde Rally, the TOMCC 60th Bonneville Celebration in Uttoxeter and the Ride to the Wall in Staffordshire.
We tried twice to organize a group ride out to the Super Sausage near Towcester. The first time it was raining heavily on the Sunday morning, so everybody cried off. Two weeks later we tried again, and despite the cold and damp, seven members met up at the H Café start point. After coffee, one of our members decided to have a shopping spree at the motorcycle clothing shop next door. By the time they had finished, we decided it was too late to ride to the Super Sausage, so we rode to the Bell Inn in Aldworth for lunch instead. The weather stayed dry and we had a great ride to the pub and an enjoyable lunch.
Coming up, we have our Christmas dinner and party on the Saturday 8th December, with the Reading Toy Run the next morning on the Sunday. In the New Year, a group will be going to the Rockers Reunion in January, our Branch AGM is on the 21st February, our Old Motorcycle Gathering is on the 15th June and our summer show is on the 20th July. And remember, we have our weekly club night every Thursday at the BCSA whatever the weather all through the winter!!!!

Berks Branch TOMCC Nacelle Report – Jan 2019
A thousand million questions!! Well, not quite that many. But Bob Cromwell, our branch quiz master, set 30 real brain teasers for our annual quiz night. There was a good turn-out of people wracking their brains to answer his obscure questions and a great set of prizes to win. Members rose to the challenge of: identifying the year of a specific Triumph model from its colour scheme; naming the make and model of the bike ridden in Terminator 2 or the name of the Californian town whose real life troubles inspired the film “The Wild One”. There was a break at half time to get refreshments from the bar. It was a close contest and at the end only a single point separated the winning team of Paul, Richard and Mick from the runners up.
The weather might be getting colder, but we still managed to fit in a ride to Newlands Corner near Guildford on a mild Sunday morning and enjoyed seeing all the classic bikes in the car park. And through the winter, we’ll still be getting out on our bikes and meeting up every Thursday at the BCSA to chat about bikes over a beer.
Christmas is upon us and there is lots to look forward to in the New Year. There’s the Reading Rocker’s Reunion in January and the London Motorcycle Show and our Branch AGM in February. And don’t forget our shows on the 15 June and the 20 July.
Keep on rolling!

Branch Report - Feb 19
So that was Christmas!! What have we done? Another year over, a new one
just begun!! Well, we’ve done a lot. We had: 50 Thursday club nights, 10
Sunday ride-outs, 7 shows attended, 2 summer shows and a quiz and a
Christmas Party. We also held our branch AGM, rode to Newcastle to the
national AGM and had a summer barbecue.
As the year drew to a close we had our annual Christmas party at the BCSA,
our normal branch venue. The following morning a group of members rode on
the annual Christmas Toy Run in aid of Dr Barnado’s. The year ended with a
ride-out to the Departure Lounge Café on the Sunday after Christmas.
Sadly, Robin Watson, one of our long term members and a regular on Thursday
nights passed away. He was a familiar sight at the local summer bike shows
on his Triumph T21 350cc bath tub bike. 14 members of our branch went to his
funeral to pay their respects and remember his life. Our condolences go out
to his wife Sandra, his daughter Helen and grandchildren, Nicole and Ollie
and his brother John.
As we start the New Year, remember that our branch AGM is at 8pm on 21 Feb
at the BCSA. Please come along and have your say in the running of the
branch. And don’t forget next year we have our Old Bike Gathering on the 15
June and our main summer show on 20 July.
Keep on rolling!

Branch Report - Mar 19
Get back !!! Some Branch members got back to where they once belonged!! Six
of us went to the Rockers Reunion in Reading. For one evening it was the
early 60’s again, wearing our black leather jackets and our oily, greasy
jeans and listening to good ole rock n roll. One of the highlights was
watching a nearly 80 year old Mike Sarne singing his 1963 hit “Just for
Kicks”, sitting on stage on a motorbike that used to belong to the late
Graham Hullett, one of the founders of the legendary 59 club.
Some members went back to where their bikes came from as well. 15 branch
members headed up the highway to Hinckley to go on the Triumph factory
visit. They were hosted by the TOMCC’s very own Roy Shilling, who treated
them like VIPs and took the group photograph. Everyone enjoyed the new
visitor centre with its display of iconic Triumph bikes from the very first
in 1902, through the generations to the present day. The guided tour through
the factory left everyone really impressed with how modern Triumph’s are
made.
We’ll be going on the annual Easter Egg run on Good Friday as usual and our
Branch stand will be flying the flag for the first time this year at the
Reading MAG Easter Sunday show. And don’t forget later in the year we have
our Old Bike Gathering on the 15 June and our main summer show on 20 July.
Keep on rolling!

Branch Report - Apr 19
It’s that special time of year!!! It was time for our branch AGM again!!!
We held it at the BCSA, looked back on the last year and made plans for the
future.
The existing committee were all re-elected and Colin Fox joined the
committee as run’s coordinator. Kevin Lovelock gave a tribute to our vice
chairman, Derek Young, the longest serving branch member, who has done so
much for the branch over the years, including organising our own shows and
taking the branch stand to other local shows. The meeting agreed to appoint
him branch President, a post that that has been vacant since John Dumelow,
the previous President, left the area. Congratulations Derek!!!
As this year is both the 70th anniversary of the club and the 40th
Anniversary of the branch, we decided to have a ruby t-shirt with platinum
writing to commemorate it.
Some branch members went to the London Motorcycle Show and had a great day
looking at all the new bikes there.
And we took advantage of a surprisingly warm Sunday to ride out to the
Artyard Café near Chipping Norton.
Coming up this month there’s the annual Easter Egg run on Good Friday and
our Branch stand will be at the Reading MAG Easter Sunday show. We’re
planning a joint event with the Oxfordshire Branch later in the summer.
Remember to come to our Old Bike Gathering on the 15 June and our main
summer show on the 20 July.
