Some \u201cJohnny-come-lately\u2019s\u201d call it The Old Motorcycle Gathering (OMG).  To older hands in the branch, it was always The OId Bike Gathering.  However, no matter what you call it, it\u2019s a cracking little show for motorcycles of a more mature age.  The criteria for entry is very simple, being that the machine, whatever its brand or nationality, be of tax-exempt status and ridden to the show (GM take note); no Trailer-queens here, thank you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On this occasion, the last Saturday in June, about 60-65 bikes turned up to be considered for one, or maybe even two, of the four prize categories; Best British, Foreign, Triumph and Best-in-Show.  It was good to see bikes and their riders who were rarely seen out together.  I guess the weather helped, dry but overcast and sultry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the BCSA bar open and Natalie\u2019s Catering, there was plenty of refreshments on hand.  It was cool drinks all round when the sun finally made its appearance, driving the cloud cover away and leaving a very humid, clammy day.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judging was thoughtfully pondered by Kevin Lovelock (British), Geoff Mahoney (Foreign), Mike Ryall (Triumph) and a joint decision for BIS.  Thanks go to the judges for their careful considerations, because they couldn\u2019t have been easy decisions, such was the level of entries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A collection was carried out during proceedings, I certainly remember being mugged by the treasurer, Zorro.  The charity of choice on this occasion being the Thames Valley Air Ambulance, certainly a noble cause and by the end of the day over \u00a3200 was collected.  Thanks to those who gave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Best-in-Show: \u00a0Stuart, 1939 Triumph, T100 Tiger<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chairman Nick presented the prizes to the winners, some were surprised but delighted.  Others too shy to step up to receive their award.  However, all went home happy in receipt of one of our unique triangular plaques, that clearly states \u201cThe Old Bike Gathering\u201d.  Lads, try and convince your partners that one of these would look great mounted above the mantelpiece, in pride of place so to speak, albeit, it\u2019ll probably be the shed or garage wall.  Where I\u2019ve no doubt it will still be in pride of place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks finally go to all who made the event happen and more importantly to those who brought their pride and joy to the show, maybe it\u2019ll be your year next year\u2026  If you don\u2019t come, there won\u2019t be a show and all at the Royal Berkshire branch hope to see you again for many years to come at The Old Bike Gathering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
