Ride to TJ’s – Mar 25

In the car park outside TJ’s Cafe

It was a bright sunny Sunday morning, so 15 members gathered together to take the scenic route to TJ’s Cafe just outside Swindon. There were a couple of navigational mishaps and the group got split up towards the end of the ride, but we all arrived at the cafe about the same time. We had phoned ahead to say we were coming so the cafe had set up a long table down the middle of the room for when we arrived so we could all sit together. Great service from a nice cafe. We all had an enjoyable ride home as well. It was a wonderful way to spend a Sunday.

Here are some photos of the ride.

Ride to Thruxton – Mar 25

Outside the cafe in the Thruxton Centre

The Jackeroo Cafe has been one of our favourite destinations for Sunday ride-outs. It used to be located opposite the skidpan by the grandstand. It has just been relocated to occupy the cafe area in the Thruxton Centre. So more than a dozen of us turned out on a dry but cold morning to try it out. We even had one rider on a classic. We enjoyed it and I am sure we will be back. Here is a photo of us setting off and outside by the cafe in the paddock area.

John Bottomley – GP Ducati Talk Photos

Branch members listening to John’s talk

We had a packed room full of members eager to hear John Bottomley talk about the development of Ducati GP racing engines. John is a former engineer and has ridden motorcycles off-road and on the track all his adult life. He also started the motorcycle team at Brooklands Museum. It was an interesting evening and everybody enjoyed it and learned a lot. We hope to have John back to share more of his knowledge of motorcycles in the future.

As well as owning a Ducati race, John also owns a 1972 Yamaha TR3 replica. Here is a video of him talking about it.

Ride to Lasham – Mar 25

It might only be mid-March but it felt like the summer riding season had begun. With the temperature rising to 15C and dry roads, 12 of us met up for spirited ride to a new venue for us, the cafe at Lasham Airfield near Alton. Three more members met us there and we enjoyed the refreshments and chat before heading our various directions home. Good to see so many people out on their bikes again and we had one new member going on his first ride with us as well. Looking forward to more days like this going forward. Here are some photos of the ride.

Ride to CTL Cafe – Mar 25

Outside CTL Cafe, Cirencester

We went on a ride to the CTL Cafe, which is named after Cherry Tree Lane, where it is located, just outside Cirencester. A favourite biker venue, it has a large car park, pictures of bikes all over the walls, the lampshades are made of tyres and there is a large garage next to the cafe which you can walk around with has a cracking collection of bikes. We had a great time looking around as well as enjoying the food, and of course, the ride there. Here are some photos of our time there.

Rides to Loomies – Feb 25

Our bikes parked up in Loomies car park

A group of us went for a ride to the ever popular Loomies Cafe in mid February. It was the first Sunday ride out of the year when the temperature was above 5 degrees. The weather forecast said it would rain, but it turned out dry and the rain did not start until after we got home. With plenty of room in a warm cafe, it all felt like luxury after some of the rides we had earlier in the year. Here are some photos of the ride.

Branch AGM 2025 – photos

Machine Registrar – 2025 – Photos

In January 2025, Richard Wheadon, the TOMCC Machine Registrar gave an presentation to the Branch at a Thursday Club Night. Although it was a cold winter evening, around 40 people turned out to hear him talk about his work as TOMCC Machine Registrar. He explained the process for registering an old bike for the first time with the DVLA, such as a “barn find” with an old style log book or an import from abroad. Part of that process is to obtain a certificate from a recognised authority, such as the TOMCC. He also gave some fascinating insights into his work. Lots of people in the audience took advantage to ask him questions and there were further discussions continuing after the formal part of the evening finished. Here are some photos of the event.

Ride to Court Hill – Jan 25

Our first Sunday ride of the year wasn’t until 19 January because of really bad weather in the first two Sundays of the year. On 19 January it was at least dry, but at 2 degrees above freezing, hardly ideal biking weather. Nevertheless, five hardy members braved the cold for a ride out to the Court Hill Centre and had hot drinks and food when we got there. It felt good to be out on bikes again.

Here are some photos of the ride.

Bring & Buy Sale 2025 – photos

We had a good turn-out for our January evening Bring & Buy sale. There was lots of stuff on sale: motorcycle parts, tools, books and clothing and more than 50 people came along, even though it is was a cold winters evening. There was hot food and drinks as always, an opportunity to chat to other members and the added fun of browsing through the goods on offer and grabbing a bargain.

Here are some photos of the event.
