Our stand at the British Superbikes race meeting at Thruxton over the weekend of the 14-16 August attracted a lot of interest. We set up on Thursday and were there through Friday to Sunday. We had our tent with information about the club and samples of our regalia in the bike display area in what is normally the skid pan.

The highlight was our display of bikes titled “Triumph thru the years”. This was a line of 12 bikes in front of the stand arranged in chronological order, from the eldest (1962) to the newest (2020), with bold year labels and stands giving information about each bike. This took advantage of people generally walking in a clockwise direction around the array of bikes displays in skid pan are. There was almost continuous stream of visitors strolling past and stopping to look more closely, read the information sheets, take photographs or ask questions about particular bikes from our members manning at the stand. We made some children very happy by allowing them to sit on the bikes and have their photographs taken.

While different bikes interested different people, it was the Rocket 3 that attracted the most interest. Although first launched 22 years, there are still many people who don’t appear to have seen one closeup before and at 2500cc with only three cylinders, there is no other bike on the market which is like this.

We took it in turns to man the stand, so there was plenty of time for our members to look around the other attractions at the event and watch some of the racing.

After a week of roasting hot temperatures and forecasts of rain for Saturday, we actually had perfect weather for our Old Bike Gathering; dry and sunny, but notably cooler than it had been earlier in the week. The bar was open, we had picnic tables outside and Tasty Bun caterers were serving the food. As usual, 40 year old and above bikes were on the lawn and eligible for the show, with modern bikes in the car park.

We awarded prizes for the: Best Triumph bike, Best British bike that wasn’t a Triumph, Best Foreign bike and Best Bike in the Show. Pictures of the winners and their bikes are below.

We took a collection for the Blood Bikes charity at the show and they had a representative on site with a one of their bikes.

We had a cracking start to the year with our first Lunchtime Bike Meet of 2026 on Saturday. The weather was dry, warm and sunny and we had a good turnout with a great collection of bikes on the lawn. The bar was open, hot food was on sale and the picnic tables were out with music playing in the background. Don’t stop us now, ’cause we’re having a good time. Lets hope for more sunny weather for a great summer out on our bikes. See some photos of the event below.

Below is a longer video taken by a visitor for his YouTube channel. It refers to the meet incorrectly as the The Old Motorcycle Gathering, but that is our show for old bikes and will be coming on the Sunday 28 June 2026, where we award prizes for the best bikes in various categories. There were no prizes for this event and it was open to all bikes. Easy mistake to make though, because there were a lot of old bikes there and some were of show winning standard. Take a look.
