It was a very cold, but dry and bright Sunday morning, so six of us put on our winter riding gear and set off on a ride through the twisty country lanes of West Berkshire and Wiltshire to finish with a breakfast at TJ’s Cafe near Swindon, which is on the site of a wartime Spitfire factory.

Below is the report published in the February 2023 issue of Nacelle, which covered Branch activities in December 2022
So that was Christmas and what have we done? Another year over and a new one just begun. 2022 was the first full year of activities since the pandemic and we made the most of it. We had around 40 ride-outs, held our Old Motorcycle Gathering show, had two other bike meets and our Branch stand was at half a dozen other events. We met every single Thursday and we hosted the National AGM. Altogether, there were around 100 opportunities to meet up with other Branch members during the year.
At the beginning of December, we joined thousands of other local bikers for the Reading Toy Run in aid of Dr Barnardo’s children’s charity, with some members acting as marshalls, while others took toys on the ride.

We had a good turnout for our branch night before Christmas. Partners were invited, we had a free buffet, Christmas music and a raffle with prize giving. A merry time was had by all.

The weather was either freezing cold or very wet for most of December, but we did manage to squeeze in one last ride just before Christmas to Milbury’s at Beauworth where we had a cracking lunch in front of an open fire before riding home.
We have lots of activities planned for 2023 including a talk from Norman Hyde on the 23 March called “Triumph and Me”. See our website for details of all our events including our Branch AGM on the 16th February.
Keep on rolling!
Ton-Up Ted

a legend in the world of Triumph Motorcycles
Norman Hyde will be giving a presentation on his work with Triumph motorcycles to members and invited guests of the Berkshire Branch of the TOMCC on 23 March 2023 at 8pm at the BCSA.
Norman Hyde joined the Triumph company in 1964. Working in their racing development department, he was involved in developing some of the most iconic motorcycles ever produced. In 1972, he broke the World Sidecar Land Speed Record, on a Triumph Trident based machine, Road Runner III, which he built himself. His record stood unbeaten for over 35 years. In 1975, he started his own business, developing after market parts for Triumph Motorcycles. He was appointed Patron of the TOMCC in 2018.

We had a good turnout with around 40 people coming to our Thursday night bring and buy meeting for motorcycle related paraphernalia. We put in extra tables to hold all the extra goods that were on sale. The bar and catering was open as normal so there were tables free for people to eat and drink when they weren’t browsing the wares on offer. Here are some photos of the evening.

If you missed this talk, don’t worry, you can can view it here.
In September 2022, Royal Berkshire Branch member Steve Yarwood and long-time riding companion Pete Thornton, embarked on a “journey-of-a-lifetime” to Istanbul; the goal being to cross the Bosphorus into Asia. This and the return leg visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Sedlec Ossuary, Kutna Hora in the Czech Republic took in 15 countries across Europe. If this near 5,000 mile tour interests you and you’d like to find out more why not come along to the Royal Berkshire Branch meeting on Thursday 2nd March at 8pm 2023 at the BCSA for Steve’s presentation of his trip on “Mercury”, his trusty Triumph Rocket Roadster.

The 2023 Branch Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on:
Thursday 16 February 2023 at 8.30pm
It will be held at the BCSA as part of our weekly club night. The AGM will start at 8.30pm. All Branch members are welcome to come to the meeting where we review the last year, present the accounts, elect a new committee and discuss plans for the coming year. Branch members can vote, ask questions of the current committee, put forward propositions and join in the discussion. This is an opportunity for all Branch members to have a say in the plans for the Branch during the next year.
People standing for the committee must be full members of the Branch and must be nominated by two other full members at any of the Thursday club nights leading up to the AGM on the nomination sheet that is on the notice board by the bar.
