Cafe to Cafe Run – August 21

Branch members at the H Cafe before setting off for the Super Sausage

We took in two biker cafes in one Sunday run. We met early at the H Cafe at Berinsfield (near Oxford) before setting off on a cross country ride to the Super Sausage on the A5 near Towcester for lunch. The Super Sausage was packed with bikers enjoying their new freedoms and the sunny weather. Most of the group rode back together, with a few going back on their own. All got home safely, although not without some close encounters. One member rode down some narrow lanes and had a close encounter with a loose dog, another had to take evasive action at a roundabout and one member left the Super Sausage later and then came across the main group riding in the opposite direction on the way home. Must be something to do with relativity!!!

Popham Megameet 2021 – Report

Our Branch Stand at the Popham Megameet

The weather for the Popham Megameet was poor and it turned out to be wet on the day. Undaunted a few of our members put up our stand and camped overnight on the Saturday where they were joined on Sunday morning by some more who rode through the rain on classic bikes to be there.

They weren’t alone, there was a good turnout of other bike clubs with a displays and a lot of trade stands selling a wide range of paraphenalia. The majority of visitors though, turned up in cars and visitor numbers were understandably down on previous years. But those that came had a good time, with plenty to look at and several hours in the middle of the day without rain.

We enjoyed ourselves, although we needed to dry out our soggy riding gear and clean our muddy bikes once we got home.

Motorcycle Megameet 2021

The Popham Motorcycle Megameet 2021 will be at Popham Airfield on Sunday 8 August 2021 between 10:00am and 4:00pm. The Berkshire TOMCC Branch will have a stand in the centre circle. Ride to Motorcycle Museum – July 21

In July we had a ride out to Sammy Miller’s magnificent Motorcycle Museum near New Milton in the New Forest. We had a great ride there, especially the last few miles through the New Forest. Once there we had some refreshments sitting outside the onsite cafe in the sunshine and then went into the museum itself to see the incredible collection of bikes.

Here are some photos we took of just a small selection of the approximately 450 motorbikes that are there.

The Old Motorcycle Gathering 2021 – Results

Despite dire weather forecasts, we had a good turn-out for The Old Motorcycle Gathering on 24 July 2021 at the BCSA. Those who came were rewarded with a good collection of bikes to view and dry weather apart from about half an hour of drizzle in mid-afternoon, which soon dried off again. Most managed to ride to and from the event on dry roads. We had a bar open serving drinks and hot food and both indoor and outdoor seating.

As well as our normal categories of Best in Show, Best Triumph, Best British and Best Foreign, this year we had a special new Trophy in memory of the late Steve Butcher, which was awarded to the best bike in the show owned by a Branch member. The winning bikes are shown below. Congratulations to all the winners.

It was exactly two years since our last real show in July 2019. In 2020, we had an online virtual show, so it was great to be back seeing real bikes up close, meeting fellow bike enthusiasts and drinking beer together. See below for more pictures from a great afternoon.

My T110 Story

Berkshire Branch member Nicholas Ryan still rides the same Triumph T110 that he had as a teenager. Here he tells the story of how it was back then and how he restored it to how it is now.

“My T110 story starts 45 years ago and continues to the present day. In a way it is a reversal of roles – back then my bike was slightly old and decrepit and I was young, now it’s me who is slightly old and decrepit and the bike probably goes better than it ever did!”
